The use of a monocular telescope (one-eyed handheld telescope) supports a visually impaired person to lead an independent life. It enables persons with low vision to find and recognize objects and information in the long or short distances, helps with orientation and facilitates mobility in public spaces, and supports free-time and hobby tasks. In schools and in vocational training, the monocular telescope is used by the visually impaired person to read blackboard markings and watch experiments and projections. In order to allow an effective handling of a monocular telescope, the person with low vision should be introduced to the use and some individual training is required. This updated and comprehensively expanded second edition of the manual describes the handling techniques in detail, gives methodical and didactical tips and offers check lists. The book and the data disk contain suitable exercise materials (copy sheets, animations, film sequences, stories, songs and a ‘Telescope Fox’ diploma) as well as technical information about monocular telescopes.
